.....so said Alexander Flemming and while the local area is closely linked to the production of Cognac and Pineau Domaine Bardon is surrounded by the vineyards of IGP Charentais wines that stretch across a unique territory, between Charente and Charente-Maritime. Therefore it only seems right that we try to highlight some of the best local wines as well as some great wine experiences in the region.
The gites are located in a terroir that extends over 1500 hectares between land, sea and marsh. The reds are mainly made from Merlot , Cabernet-Sauvignon , Cabernet-Franc grape varieties . While Chardonnay , Sauvignon , Colombard are the grape varieties for the whites.
With over 20 vineyards and wineries within 30 minutes drive of the gites there is no shortage of great wine. We are pleased to partner with one of these vineyards, Château Maison Neuve, to offer you a lovely range of wines for you to enjoy on your holiday. Established in 1884 by the great-grandparents of the current proprietor and winemaker, Alexia Eymas, the property has been passed down through generations, growing and evolving the estate of 45 hectares. It is known for producing a range of red and white wines, primarily from Merlot, Cabernet Sauvignon, and Malbec grapes and we are very happy to be able to provide a range of their wines for you to take pleasure in.

Further afield Bordeaux, 1 hour from our gites, is one of the world’s most famous and prestigious wine regions. Known for its production of both red and white wines, Bordeaux is home to iconic appellations such as Médoc, Saint-Émilion, and Pomerol. The region primarily produces blends dominated by Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot for reds, and Sauvignon Blanc and Sémillon for whites.
An ideal place to start any wine journey is the La Cité du Vin - a unique cultural centre dedicated to the universal, living heritage of wine. It offers a spectacular journey around the world, throughout the ages, across countless cultures and civilisations.

Saint-Emillion, just over an hour from us, is a fantastic place to visit. A beautiful town with lots to see and do, the main attraction is its world famous wines and vineyards. A great introductory tour is the vineyards train. After discovering the city of Saint Emilion this train tour takes you out into the countryside and surrounding vineyards to discover more about the history and culture of wine in this region.
